Blanton’s bourbon was named out of appreciation for one of the distillery’s initial leaders, Albert B. Blanton, who the organization claims spent most of his life preserving the custom of high quality bourbon. Blanton worked at the office presently known as the Bison Follow Distillery for around 55 years. He was brought up on a homestead just outside Frankfort, Kentucky, and he started working at the distillery (then called the O.F.C. Distillery) in 1897 as an office kid when he was 16 years old. Over the course of the following couple of years he purportedly worked in each division, and in 1912 he was named superintendent of the distillery, its warehouse, and packaging shop – at the same time that the distillery was renamed to turn into the George T. Stagg Distillery. He became president of the whiskey plant in 1921. Blanton kicked the bucket in 1959.
